Internet Marketing Terms

All industries have their own unique language, the jargon of that particular industry. Internet marketing is no different. There are many unusual terms and names in internet marketing and if you aren’t familiar with what these internet marketing terms mean, it can be very confusing.

In this article I will provide you with a brief description of some of the most common internet marketing terms and what they mean. That way you will have an easier time learning the basic skills you need to make money online instead of feeling like you were just dropped off in some strange foreign land!

These are the terms you are most likely to hear marketing online. Of course I won’t be able to go over all of them in this article but I will give you a place to start:

1. Search Engine Optimization (SEO): this is simply a way to optimize your website content and articles that you write so the search engines will find them. In order to do this you find one keyword to target for each piece of content and that is what you optimize for.

2. Pay Per Click (PPC): this is a method for getting targeted traffic (people who are really interested in what you are talking about) to your website. You place an add targeting a certain group of keywords.

When someone does a search online for that keyword your ad (hopefully) will show up at the top of the page. When they click on it they will go to your site. You are only charged when someone clicks on your ad and not just when it shows up.

3. Autoresponder: this is an automated system where you can create a webform, add it to your website and when people sign up (which means they are giving you permission to send them emails) the follow up emails that you have added to the autoresponder will go out automatically.

4. Squeeze Page (sometimes called a capture page): this is a page that has only one purpose and that is to get people to optin or sign up to your email list. They either sign up or they leave. There is nothing else to do on this page and no navigation to allow them access to other pages of your site.

5. Keywords: these are the words or phrases people search for when looking for something online. For example, if I were looking for information on how to train my dog I would probably type in the keyword “how to train a dog” that is considered a long tailed keyword since it has several words.

This list is obviously not exhaustive, but hopefully I’ve covered some of the most common, and confusing, terms around.

When starting an internet marketing career your best bet (and believe it or not it’s not something most people do) is to invest some time and possibly some money to get training. After all, learning a few internet marketing terms is really just the tip of the ice burg to making money online.

Internet Marketing Strategy

Making a six figure income seems to be the goal for many an online business people but what exactly do you have to do to achieve such an awesome result? Is it even possible? Yes, it is possible and many people have done that very thing. They did it with a completely mapped out internet marketing strategy. The biggest danger some people run into is they forget to  treat it like what it really is, a business that will take time and patience to grow.

The lure of a five or six figure income can make people react so out of character and irresponsibly. It can make them do things they wouldn’t normally do. It’s just weird. If you really want to make that much money online your best bet is to throw out everything you think you know about the internet and start from scratch with your own internet marketing strategy. Having a good strategy is half the battle.

For one thing, do not think that there is any system or technique that will make it happen quickly. Of course, the term ‘quickly’ can be somewhat deceptive. How quick is quick? Most off line businesses don’t even expect to be profitable for at least the first year and maybe even longer if they have invested a lot of money into buying a building.

Online, your most important job will be to find the best ways to get people to your website. This is called getting traffic. There are hundreds of ways you can go about doing this and lots of them are free to do. You just need to learn the methods, and you will need to invest some time to test and tweak the methods you choose to get the maximum benefit.

When you get to the point that you know how to use a certain technique and you know that it will work, the sky is pretty much the limit. You can then start promoting several products at one time. The more products you can successfully promote the more money you can make.

I think it is pretty easy to see how much potential this can have. When I say that you can make as much money as you want online, I mean it. As long as you do it consistently, treat it like a business, don’t expect something for nothing, and are willing to learn as you go, a huge income is practically guaranteed.

By following an internet marketing strategy your extra income is well within reach. Just do yourself a favor and stay away from the products and systems that promise you can make tens of thousands of dollars in your first month. You can make that kind of money but usually not in the first month. What they do not tell you is that it will have the same learning curve as any other system. So, find a good system, learn it, work it, give it time to develop, and you will get there.

Joining Affiliate Programs

When joining affiliate programs it’s important to determine who the visitors to your site are.  Affiliate programs are targeted towards a certain market, and if you choose programs that aren’t rightly aligned for your audience, you’ll never make the commissions you intended.  When choosing affiliate programs you’ll need to invest in plenty of research.  Considering your target audience’s needs is the primary focus for ensuring that they will find the program appealing and be enticed to click through and make a purchase.

Before joining an affiliate program, review the site.  It’s important to remember that since you are referring your customer to the merchant’s site that you are recommending that merchant as an honest and reputable business partner.  Your customer’s trust that you are referring them to legitimate businesses.  Take the time to review the merchant’s website.  Preview the design of the site, the layout, their ordering policies, and check their history to make sure they are an upstanding businesses.  Choose affiliate programs that you would buy products from yourself.

Determine how the affiliate program interacts with their associates.  Do they have a person that you may contact should you have any affiliate marketing questions?  Reputable companies provide a marketing professional with whom you can interact, send Emails to, and discuss marketing strategies with.  It is important to associate yourself with companies that understand the importance of the merchant/affiliate relationship and take that relationship seriously.

Preview the types of marketing materials they make readily available when making your decision.  Do they use banner ads, text links, HTML code for newsletters, and do they have a wide variety of graphic ads?  Also, make sure that they frequently update their ads as well.  If they are still running Christmas ads in July, they might have difficulty managing their affiliate marketing department.

Always read through and understand the terms of payment to ensure that you choose marketing programs that are best suited for your needs.  Every associate program offers its own payment structure and terms.  Determine how you will be paid, as some programs pay on a weekly basis, while others pay on a monthly basis after you reach a set threshold.  By taking these factors into consideration, you can make certain that you select the best affiliate programs for your needs.

Internet Marketing Center

There are multiple places you can go online to learn how to start an online business and hone your skills. With so many choices, how do you know which internet marketing center to use? It can be overwhelming, I know.

Overwhelming, yes, but impossible… no. There are some things you can look for that will make choosing the right internet marketing center for you, a little easier. No two people are the same and no two programs are the same. There really isn’t a “best” it’s more about finding what is “best” for you and your skill level, needs and learning style.

To help you figure it all out, I’ve compiled this list of some things you should take into consideration before you make your choice:

1. Obviously, experience is extremely important. If you want to maximize the benefit you get from taking any course or joining any program you want assurances that the information is valid and will work.

You want to know that whoever has put together the information truly knows what they are talking about and can help you achieve everything you want to achieve. Experience and wisdom are two very important factors that you should look for in a mentor and a course or program online.

2. Don’t try to do too much too soon and make sure that the program or center you are considering will teach you all you need to know but in small, easy to understand bite size pieces.

Remember the saying “jack of all trades but master of none?” That is not what you want to be so you want a place that can allow you to focus on what aspect of building your business at a time. Once you’ve got that information down, you can move on the the next piece of the puzzle.

This is the best way to guarantee full time success as quickly as possible.

3. Can you afford it? If the program or center you are considering joining is out of your budget it won’t do you any good. The best information in the world will be a waste if you can’t continue being a member until you’ve perfected all the skills you need to perfect.

If you simply don’t have enough money to join a certain program, you may have to wait for a while and find as much information online as you can for free. This isn’t the quickest or easiest way to make money online, but you have to do what you have to do.

Making money online is no different from any other skill: it takes time and effort to learn how to do it right. You will make some mistakes along the way, and that’s ok, just keep moving forward and you will get where you want to be.

Keep these things in mind when you are trying to decide which internet marketing center is the right fit for you. When it comes to gaining an internet marketing education you have a lot of options. To get the biggest result in the shortest time frame, choose the one that is the best fit for you.

Tips on Choosing the Affiliate Programs for You

You have read tons about affiliate marketing. You signed up for an affiliate network. Action! It is time to take the first real step in affiliate marketing—choosing the right affiliate programs for you.

Here are some tips to get the ball rolling for you in affiliate marketing:

Choose affiliate programs that do not collect fees. If you are a newbie, you cannot risk investing money with paid affiliate programs. You should also check when commissions are paid out so you have an idea if it fits your schedule.

Get a program that has a high traffic ratio. This will be your gauge as to how much money you can make with an affiliate program. Look at the hit per sale ratio which will tell you the number of hits a promo gets before someone actually buys the product or service.

Check how long your affiliate cookies last. Cookies are like your marks in the system. They will be used to track the sale and say that the consumer was a referral from your site. The longer they are in there means the longer time you have to earn. Remember visitors might not grab the product or service the first time they see it.

Pick an affiliate program that pays well. There are some programs that pay out commissions that are as much as 75%. Promoting products which pay really low might just be a waste of time, effort, and resources. There are also programs which pay people for recruiting other people to promote their products.

Good affiliate programs provide support materials. When you choose an affiliate program, life will be easier if it provides sales pages, banners, and other stuff that you can use to promote their goods.

Once you have chosen a good program, start promoting it. It will be a good practice to think out of the box and be creative on how you will push for the product.

Think of ways to get the message across to your potential customers and use means like reports, newsletters, and videos to make them realize that your product is what they need.
